En realidad, nunca conjugamos el verbo haber sin nada detrás. No decimos yo he, o ellos habían. Lo usamos como verbo auxiliar en los tiempos compuestos: yo he cantado, ellos habían comido. Y cuando hacemos esto ya no decimos que estamos conjugando haber en presente y en pretérito imperfecto respectivamente. Decimos que estamos conjugando cantar y comer en pretérito perfecto compuesto y en pretérito pluscuamperfecto, respectivamente.
💂 Actually, we never conjugate the verb haber without anything right after. We do not say yo he, or ellos habían. We use it as an auxiliary verb in the compound tenses: yo he cantado, ellos habían comido. And when we do this we no longer say that we are conjugating haber in the present tense and in the imperfect tense respectively. We say that we are conjugating cantar and comer in the pretérito perfecto compuesto and the pretérito pluscuamperfecto tense, respectively.
