Intermediate Conversation

58 reviews

Intermediate Conversation is an immersion course for the intermediate student who is comfortable speaking solely in Spanish but doesn’t feel ready for Advanced Conversation yet.

You will read, write, listen and speak in Spanish for ten weeks as you slowly but surely improve your vocabulary and your confidence. You will also have to prepare and give two presentations (in Spanish, of course!).

Please note that, because we all learn at a different pace, 10 sessions at the Basic Conversation level may not be sufficient to reach an Intermediate Conversation level. Students should consider re-enrolling on the Basic Conversation level to further improve fluency and proficiency before considering a higher conversational level. If you need help deciding, please request an oral assessment with us (it’s free!) and we’ll give you our insight.

Please also note that our instructors tend not to review grammar rules in conversation classes, as the most important thing is to keep the conversation flowing! If you want to review specific grammar topics, it’s best to take one of our regular L1-5 classes and/or private lessons :)

Please note that, in order to register for this course, you should have scored at least 22 points on our Online Placement Test.

Interesting topics to prepare and discuss in class helped facilitate conversation.

The course has great potential. However ever class followed the exact same format. It became boring and predictable. A game was used once to introduce vocabulary and to break the monotony. I have been in other courses where short films or a short poem or reading was used to good effect. One student was allowed to dominate most discussions. She should have been limited in a nice way. These are not criticisms of Ms. Guedes. She is personable and willing, however she needs more training. I did not come back for the two last meetings. I am a very busy person and I felt that my time was not well spent.

Loved it. Melissa was a great instructor. She was so friendly and patient. I loved going in and chatting in Spanish for 90 minutes a week.

Teacher was great, he led the convos in a very interactive manner. Class was news/discussions based so there is always something to talk about. Wish it was a little more structured so I knew if I was improving or not. Some formal exercises would've been helpful.

I enjoyed this class because we were able to talk about a variety of subjects and bring up topics we found interesting or parts of speech we were struggling with. The teacher was friendly and interesting. However, overall, I don't feel like I gained very much new knowledge or practice of the language. Much of the conversation would end up being between a student and the teacher. She would ask a question and someone would respond, then we'd move on to the next question. Student grammar was hardly corrected or guided, even when it was desperately needed.
