Julia Negrete, instructor at Berges Institute

Julia Negrete is from Guanajuato, a small, beautiful, colonial city in Central Mexico, where she started teaching Spanish-as-a-second-language to foreign students a while ago. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Spanish Literature from the University of Guanajuato and received a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature from El Colegio de México, in Mexico City. She has authored a book and several articles related to Spanish-American Literature and continues researching and publishing in the literary field. As is the case for every Mexican, living without authentic tacos is difficult, but with the amazing diversity of food in New York City as a substitute (BBQ, bagels with cream cheese and lox, buffalo wings…) she is content. Julia is very passionate about sharing her language and culture with her students and is very dedicated to seeing the Spanish Language spread.

Julia is a good teacher. She's patient and organized. Considering the difficulty of learning a new language, I place all my frustration on myself. Learning a new language is about putting the time in to grasp it. So if I'm unable to follow a conversation sometimes then it's on me. Julia does a good job of navigating us considering the different abilities of all her students
