Online Spanish Classes FAQ

Why study online with Berges?

Berges uses the Graf Method, which focuses on building a strong foundation of grammar and literacy skills. Understanding the grammar and how to write properly will set the foundation to learn more complex verb tenses and sentence structures. The principles of the Graf Method will help students speak accurately and confidently as they progress through the course levels and add more practical vocabulary to their Spanish repertoire.

For the live online Spanish classes, Berges uses quality, state-of-the-art equipment to broadcast the sessions. Instructors use professional-grade microphones, headphones, cameras and monitors to explain, ask questions, and demonstrate notes and examples with students in real time.

Who should study online with Berges?

Berges Institute’s live online courses provide easily accessible classroom instruction to those who don’t live near a Spanish school or who prefer to take classes at a location of their convenience. For professionals who travel for work or have a hefty commute, learning online with Berges brings the opportunity to learn Spanish with live instructors anywhere.

For upcoming online classes and to register, view the schedule here and navigate to the Online tab under each available course.

If you are interested in taking a Spanish course with us but don’t know where to start, begin by taking our Online Placement Test.

Are the online classes prerecorded?

Online classes are not prerecorded. They are live classes. A Berges instructor who teaches at one of the language centers leads the class. Online students are able to interact with the teacher and fellow students, just like they would do it at a regular class.

What device is needed to access the online class?

Students can access their class on any internet-connected device—mobile, tablet or computer.

What happens if there are technical problems?

If technical problems occur, please contact us as soon as possible, so we can test your connection/devices.

How fast does my internet speed need to be?

We recommend a minimum of 7mbps of download speed and a minimum of 1 mbps of upload speed. To test your connection, you can use Google’s speed test tool.

I took a course in person. Is it possible to take one online?

Yes, students who had taken previous courses at the Chicago or Manhattan centers can absolutely transition from brick-and-mortar to online education.

What happens if an online class is missed?

Students who know in advance that they will miss a session and would like to attend a make-up class may request a make-up session by using our Make-up Classes Request Form or send us an email. Berges staff will authorize the make-up class and find a replacement class based on schedule availability.

If unexpected events occur, please reach out to us as soon as possible to discuss when to take a make-up class. Please note that make-up classes are a complimentary service offered only if available. Also, it is very likely that make-up options, if available, will take place during that same week of the originally missed class.

What do I need to prepare for each class?

As for any class, make sure to have the workbook (we will email you a PDF version before the course starts) and anything necessary to take notes. For online courses, make sure the internet connectivity is fast enough and that it can handle the video and audio feeds. If you have any questions about your setup or your internet connection, send us an email and we’ll help you make sure it will work!
