The woman who went viral after a video emerged on TikTok of a rant in which she verbally attacked the staff of Amy's Pizza in Pennsylvania because they were playing Spanish-language TV has officially been charged with hate crimes.
In the five-minute video, the woman gave the staff the finger, asked for her money back, and used a series of expletives. She said having Spanish on the TV is an insult to Americans.
The Hatboro Police Department issued a press release on March 3 explaining that the woman has been charged with Ethnic Intimidation and Harassment Following Disturbance, which, as reported by BuzzFeed, is the state's hate crime statute.
According to the press release, on the day of the rant, the police arrived at the restaurant at 5:55 PM and "de-escalated the disturbance."
One of the employees recorded the incident. The video went viral, and several people were falsely identified as the woman. Amy's Pizza released a statement thanking everyone for their support but asking people to stop accusing innocents.
The woman was eventually identified as Rita Bellew, of Hatboro.
The preliminary hearing has not been scheduled yet.
